Éric Deschênes
Head Skill Coach
Eric is one of those magical people of influence behind the scenes that has had, and continues to have, a massive impact on cyr wheel as a craft and the culture of cyr wheel artistry.
He often collaborates as a wheel and physical preparation coach with companies such as Cirque du Soleil, Cirque Éloize, Barely Methodical Troup, and more.
Most consistently, Eric is a cyr wheel (solo and duo), german wheel and ultimate wheel coach at Ecole Nationale de Cirque (ENC) in Montréal. There, he also teaches physical preparation and coordinates the trainer’s program along with its participation in research (CRITAC), at ENC. Some of Eric’s students have gone on and won medals at international circus festivals such as Paris Festival de Cirque de Demain, Moscow’s Idol festival, to name a couple.
Eric is also a member of the technical committee of the International Wheel Gymnastics Federation (IRV) as cyr wheel specialist (development, competition rules, and difficulty catalogue). He is a judge and judge’s formator at national and international wheel competitions.
Even with such a busy schedule doing all the above, Eric’s passion leads him to pursue his private practice, providing wheel classes to individuals and group workshops at places/events like Chicago’s Big Wheel Weekend, Taunusstein International Wheel Camp, San Fransisco Circus Center and you guessed it…CYRS & BEERS.
